Pearl Bridge was built in 1988, when construction conditions were incredibly difficult – in the Strait there often were severe storms and shipping on it is more than active – daily almost fifteen hundred vessels swim through it. However, in 1995, Kobe was a strong earthquake, and one of the pylons of the bridge moved a meter. Various technological problems in the construction were solved on the go, in very original and ultimately successful way. So, since there was pouring of concrete directly beneath the water, it required the creation of a new type of concrete, a curable in virtually any environment.
