Jaisalmer Fort

Indian Wonder Jaisalmer Fort

Jaisalmer fort is situated in the west of the state of Rajasthan in the Thar Desert (“Resident of death”), stretched on the territory of 800 km long and 320 km wide. Over the centuries, it has been a natural barrier between the Indus Valley and the fertile plains of northern India.

Jaisalmer fort was founded in 1156 by Raval Jaisal of the Bhatti Rajput clan (ruled 1155-1167), moving here from the capital city less secure Lodhurva (Lodhurva, 16 km to the west of Jaisalmer). Brahman hermit told Raval that once visited this place. Lord Krishna and Arjuna have predicted the construction of a fort near Trikuta Mountains (Trikuta Hill, letters. “Three Peaks”, 76 m). The name consists of the name of Rav, and the word “measure” (“fort”) and thus is translated as “Fort Jaisal”. Jaisalmer fort is also called the “Golden City”, as the houses built of local varieties of yellow sandstone, shining golden in the evening light – is one of the attractions of India.
