Previously placed in the central courtyard of the Bangkok Grand Palace was used as the royal chambers. Currently, two of the three halls are open for public viewing. A daughter and wife of King lived in the courtyard. This part of the palace is not available for public viewing. After King Rama VIII of, Ananda Mahidol died in 1946; King Bhumibol Adulyadej Rama the IX, his brother and successor, it was chosen as the royal residence palace. Despite the fact that the Grand Palace in Bangkok has lost the status of residence, it continues to be a symbol of spirituality and authority in Thailand.
