Scattered Ayutthaya ancient temples and ruins are considered cultural monuments of international importance. The list includes VET Phra Si Sanphet of XIV century, the largest temple in its time in the city, which once housed a 16-meter high statue of Buddha covered with 250 kg of gold. Unfortunately the Burmese conquerors considered it their duty to melt it. Preserved from the XVI century, like a fortress VET Phra Meru escaped destruction in 1767 and boasts a stunning carved wooden ceiling, a magnificent 6-meter-high statue of a seated Buddha in the crown and made of green stone Buddha statue brought from Ceylon, which is 1300 years, and that depicts the Buddha sitting on a chair.
