In the Ligurian Gulf of La Spezia there is a small village Portovenere. On the one hand it is fenced by a wall of rocky mountains, so it is possible to pass to the north side, through the Cinque Terre. The settlement, which is home to mostly fishermen, got its name from the Roman goddess of love Venus: when something is a small promontory stretching into the sea, stood a magnificent temple in her honor. But in the 6th century, the temple was destroyed, and the small church of St. Peter was built in its place – the patron saint of fishermen.
