Canyonlands National Park, the second largest in the state of Utah, has hundreds of colorful canyons, hills, arches, spires and hoodoos (tall thin pointed geological formations, towering above the arid basins). The central part of the park consists of two large canyons carved into layers of sedimentary rocks rivers Green and Colorado. Park infrastructure is largely different from other US national parks. The roads are mostly unpaved, camping has no running water, and hiking trails are rather primitive. It was made advisedly, so Canyonlands National Park remains one of the few parts of the primitive wilderness.
