The Galapagos Islands are the place, where everything tells you who is the host here, and it is never a man. Galapagos is the animals reign, where human is only a guest, who has been kindly invited in. And all the facts are totally serious – every move has to be dictated by care about animals, even your first step on the Galapagos earth will be at the special disinfectant carpet, in order not to bring any infection into this heaven.
The Galapagos Islands are the huge archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, consisting of 18 volcanic islands, which got a name because of the giant turtles living there. In Spanish, the word “galapagos” means “the sea turtle”.
What is the rest at the Galapagos Islands? It is a journey from one island to another by yacht with sightseeing the animal world. However, do not think you can go anywhere you want. Remember, you must not disturb any species of wild flora and fauna. Therefore, communication between people and animals goes strictly under control. For example, it is impossible to pet the babies of nice sea lions. And it is totally justly, in fact such gesture is equivalent to murder, because a mother will not allow a baby to come close if an extraneous smell comes from it. In addition, you are not allowed to perch on the offshore stones where penguins or iguanas bask in the sun.
In 2007 UNESCO decided to include the Galapagos Islands into the “List of World Heritage in Danger”. The reason was the uncontrolled tourism, excessive fishing and illegal hunting for the sea lions. Fortunately, the government of Ecuador succeeded to manage with this situation.
