Since 1982, the island of Koh Chang – part of the National Marine Park on the island banned water sports: skiing, jet skis, etc.; there are no factories or concerns, so mountains and pristine jungle cover most of the island. Koh Chang is an eco-friendly resort. “Chang” means “Elephant”, so the island of Koh Chang is often called the “Elephant Island”. Across the island everywhere elephant’s figures can be found.
The climate of Koh Chang is tropical. It is high (dry) season from November to May, but in March and April it is very hot. In the summer there is a rainy season. But this does not mean that it rains all day. Basically, it rains during the night, and do not interfere with a pleasant rest. In recent years, the climate is changing. We rested on Koh Chang in the dry season in November – it rained every night.
Chang was opened to tourism only recently. Only in the early nineties of the last century, the construction of the ring road along the coast began. Nevertheless, the possibility of a relaxing holiday on the wonderful beaches, retained its natural charm, away from civilization, but with all the necessary infrastructure, plus the high level of service combined with reasonable prices make Chang one of the most promising Thai resorts.
Here, a wide selection of accommodations – from simple wooden bungalows, covered with palm leaves, up to 4 and 5 star international-class hotels. In addition to housing, you can select a beach by yourselves to your liking – a quiet and secluded or noisy and crowded with bars and restaurants. The main beaches are located on Chang’s west coast. First to the south from the ferry – Ao Khlong Son, a small but very beautiful. It is took by the hotel “Ayyapura”. Next to it – Haad Sai Khao (or White Sand Beach) which length is about 3 km.
It is the most popular beach of Chang nightlife center of the island. Behind it there is Ao Khlong Prao, divided into several channels, embankments, which originate from the waterfalls in the central part of the island. The coastal area is far from the main road, so to the hotel can be reached along the narrow country roads. It is ideal for people seeking a relaxing beach holiday. In addition to these main beaches there are still less popular in the south of Chang. One of them is Hotel Grand Laguna, and another one – virtually deserted – is only accessible by boat or jeep, but a very bad road.
